- Sumerians were polytheistic, which means the worshipped many gods
- they depicted their gods as being very human-like, but immortal and all powerful
- Sumerians feared that if they angered the gods, then the gods would send a fire, flood, enemy, or some other disaster, to destroy the city
- Historians think that Sumerians invented the wheel, the sail, and the plow
- Sumerians invented an arithmetic system and a writing system
- Hammurabi's code features 282 specific laws
- Sumerian women had more rights than most women in other ancient civilizations
- Slaves were at the bottom of the Sumerian society
- Most Sumerian people worked in fields or workshops
- City states first formed in 3000 B.C
