Today we took more notes out of the textbook.
Notes
  • Sumerians were polytheistic, which means the worshipped many gods
  • they depicted their gods as being very human-like, but immortal and all powerful 
  • Sumerians feared that if they angered the gods, then the gods would send a fire, flood, enemy, or some other disaster, to destroy the city
  • Historians think that Sumerians invented the wheel, the sail, and the plow
  • Sumerians invented an arithmetic system and a writing system
  • Hammurabi's code features 282 specific laws
  • Sumerian women had more rights than most women in other ancient civilizations
  • Slaves were at the bottom of the Sumerian society
  • Most Sumerian people worked in fields or workshops
  • City states first formed in 3000 B.C
