Today in class we watched Guns, Germs, and Steel. I watched the first 10 minutes of the video at home last night, but between my migraine, Jared Diamond's accent, and the extremely loud background music in the video, I didn't really get that much out of it. Today, however, I was able to pay attention and actually learn from the video. Jared Diamond basically travels to Papa New Guinea, which is a very remote place, and he learns from the people there who don't have much if any, "cargo", which is a word for manufactured goods. The people in the video who were from Papa New Guinea are hunters and gatherers, which is one of the simplest lifestyles. My favorite part of the video was when Jared shot an arrow at a tree and a little kid climbed the tree and grabbed it like it was an easy task.
