Today in class we talked about world religions. There are five major ones, but we only covered Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Christianity has 2.2 billion followers, being the largest religion in the world. The followers are called Christians, and are found most predominantly in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. The Christian denominations are the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and  Protestant churches, such as Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc. Islam has 1.5 billion followers, who are called Muslim. The are most prominently found in Indonesia, the Middle East, and North America. The religion is separated into two denominations, Sunnis, which 75-90% of Muslims follow, and Shiites, which 10-20% of Muslims follow. The founder of Islam is Muhammad and their holy book is called the Qur’an. The final religion we covered today is Hinduism. There are about 1.9 billion Hindus in the world and they are predominantly found in India and Nepal.
