Terms and Names
Direct Democracy- a form of government where citizens rule directly
Classical Art- Art that portrayed ideal beauty, not realism
Tragedy- a serious drama about common themes such as love, hate, war, and betrayal
Comedy- scenes filled with slapstick situations and crude humor
Peloponnesian War- war between Sparta and Athens; Sparta won
Philosopher- "lovers of wisdom"
Socrates- encouraged Greeks to go farther and question themselves and their moral character

What steps did Pericles take to strengthen democracy in Athens?
He increased the number of public officials who were paid salaries- this was important because now even poor people can serve in government. which led to democracy.

What were the battle strategies of Athens and Sparta in the Peloponnesian war?
Athens:
-Avoid land battles
- Wait to strike from the sea
Sparta:
- Strike from land

Why do you think some Athenians found the ideas of Socrates disturbing? 
 Because they had never been asked to question their own morals.
