Today in class we discussed how our phones, Google homes, Alexa Dots, and other home assistants are listening to us at all times. Siri and Alexa respond when you call their names, which means they're probably listening to everything you say, waiting for you to call them. If they are listening to everything you say, then they could potentially, and probably will, use that information to show ads based on things you talk about. Another privacy concern is if you ever do anything against the law, that data could be shown to the police. While some people think that this is a good thing, it is still an invasion of your privacy. This may not affect law-abiding citizens at the moment, but you never know what could happen in the future, and if a revolution is ever necessary, you could possibly get arrested just for researching revolution. Overall, I think home assistants are creepy and are also unnecessary, but then again, just about everything you do is being monitored, so as long as you have nothing to hide, you may as well make your life as easy as possible, even if that means being stalked 24/7.
